August 2026 Kaiju & Tokusatsu Themed Book, Comic, & Manga Releases

Wow August already, the final month of Q3 this year! Surprisingly, we have a relatively light Godzilla month from IDW this month, with Godzilla not returning for its new arc until October. The Horror of Godzilla and Sonic the Hedgehog X Godzilla will return for their Issue 2s in September. But IDW is bringing us the latest Godzilla's Monster Theater Presents with Roar of the Worlds. That's right, a War of the Worlds crossover! Godzilla Minus One & Zero director Takashi Yamazaki recently said Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds is his favorite Kaiju film, so how perfectly timed is this comics release?

Also out this month is UFO Robot Grendizer Issue 1 from Titan Comics! This series looks great. I have honestly never watched the Grendizer Anime, it has always been on the list of things I want to check out, as it looks really cool. With this comic series coming here, I think it may be the gateway for me and many others into the series.

Dark Horse will be closing out their four-issue Hidden Springs miniseries this month. It has been a fun ride, and I can't wait to pick up the trade when it comes out in January. Definitely a worthy addition to the collection shelf.

Toxic Super Beast will be releasing Volume 4, the final volume and conclusion to this manga series. It really has been such a great Kaiju series that I always encourage Kaiju fans to read. I hope to one day see a short anime adaption of this series, even if it is a miniseries or maybe a movie, something along those lines.

On BOOM! Studios Power Rangers front, there are three comics this month Mighty Morphin Power Rangers issue 3, Power Rangers Unlimited issue 2, and Power Rangers: Green debuts with issue 1. On top of those three series, Dan Mora is getting an art book release with a ton of his Power Rangers art he has done over the years for BOOM! Studios.

One last Ranger release is Go! Go! Loser Ranger Volume 18. I enjoyed the anime a lot and have been reading the manga, but I am not up to date. While not completely Sentai/Ranger related, the elements and themes will still sit well with the older Rangers/ Sentai fans.

Go-Man Vs. The Star Dragon is the second book in Hamish Steele's Go-Man series, and I am very excited for it. The first book was just so fun and packed with easter eggs and references to many Kaiju and Henshin Hero series, so it should not be missed! I would like to add as someone who picked up both the softcover and hardcover for the first book, the hardcover is absolutely beautifully designed, soI recommend spending the few extra bucks for it you will not be disappointed.

Lastly, we have some indie comic campaigns that are ending in the first few days of the month. The first one is Cloud Town: Friends in Stormy Weather Book 2. This is a unique mech vs kaiju series targeted at pre-teens and teens, but as always, anyone can enjoy the story. What's so unique about the Cloud Town series is the first book was released as graphic novel in a spiral notebook style book and Book 2 will be released in a composition notebook style book. If you are someone who missed the first campaign, like myself, you can pick-up both Books 1 and 2 with this campaign. This campaign ends August 1st, so make sure to get in on the action fast!

Next up on the Kaiju monster indie front is Monster Matador Blood of the Matador 3. War is here, and it's Nacho Lobo's army & monsters versus the Matador's army of rebel misfits. If you have not read Steven Prince's Monster Matador, I urge you back this campaign. Volume 1 and the new Volume 2 are available as add-ons.

Lastly is our good pal Blake McCarthy's Garbage Lordz, his new series fresh off the Kaiju series Territory. Garbage Lordz that takes place in the near future, where the Pacific Trash Heap has become an island and rival gangs battle for dominance. While it's not our usual Kaiju and Toku themed comic, we suggest checking it out. It comes from a great creator, and a dystopian story is always a good read.
