Monster Apperances: Giant Octopus, Megalodon, Snappers, Tyrannosaurus Rex
In this review, we dive back into The Meg film series with Meg 2: The Trench (2023), the sequel that takes everything the original did and cranks the absurdity up to entirely new levels. Starring Jason Statham once again, this follow-up delivers even bigger and more giant sharks, more deep-sea monsters, and pure creature-feature chaos from start to finish.

While the first film balanced blockbuster action with creature-feature fun, Meg 2: The Trench fully commits to being a completely campy monster movie, packed with over-the-top and absurdly silly action sequences. Whereas the original was loaded with Jaws references, this one seems to have more nods to Jurassic Park.
That leads to the big question: did Meg 2 jump the shark? Or did it lean so hard into its own insanity that it became peak monster-movie entertainment?

Whether you loved the original Meg or you’re just here for over-the-top creature carnage, this review breaks down what works, what doesn’t, and where Meg 2: The Trench lands in the ever-growing world of modern monster movies. From massive underwater threats to Jason Statham wielding a helicopter propeller like a sword, this sequel knows exactly what kind of movie it wants to be and that is just pure creature chaos!
