The Maserdon Launch Bay is where Maserdon commissions come to life! It's a space dedicated to showcasing unique artistic interpretations of the Maserdon from artist we admire across the kaiju community. Following different artists and watching them hone their skills over the years has been one of the most rewarding parts for us, and supporting their work is incredibly important, as their fan art can often bring new fans and followers to this amazing community.
Thomas Johnson (thom.artz) is an artist we've followed for years. Frank even has his Godzilla Singular Point scroll that has been permanently hanging behind him during our shows. Thomas is known for creating fan posters for every Godzilla film and for producing some of the coolest kaiju crossover artwork (often featuring Godzilla) in recent years. As a longtime fan of thom.artz, Frank reached out to have him take on the Maserdon, and the result did not disappoint.
Highlights:
One of the most striking elements is the underlay visible between the joints and non-armored sections. It's reminiscent of the material we see beneath Kiryu's (Mechagodzilla) armor, and more recently Earth Garon, both were big major inspirations for the Maserdon. In past Maserdon designs, we've seen exposed gears and inner workings in these areas, a very cool and extremely detailed touch. With this added layer, it feels like a natural upgrade, adding a sense of protection to those vulnerable parts.
Another standout feature is the shuriken launcher port on the head. This is a concept we always intended for the Maserdon. Lizard King Productions was the first to successfully capture this detail, though it's often mistaken for an ear port. Here, it's clearly defined and integrated, making its function unmistakable.
The final element that elevates this piece is the Maserdon's aura. Set against a dark, nightime city that feels completely blacked out and plunged into darkness, the Maserdon stands as a glowing beacon, cutting through the darkness as the city's final hope!
Be sure to head to the Maserdon Launch Bay to check out this piece, along with the many other commissions we have featured. Please follow thom.artz as well.
