In this episode, the Science Patrol travels to a quiet fishing village beside a lake to investigate the sudden overgrowth of fish. What seems like a simple environmental anomaly turns out to be the work of a mad scientist hiding a terrifying secret a giant monster dwelling in the lake.
After investigating the area, the Science Patrol finds nothing unusual. The Captain grants the team some time off, and Ito decides to go fishing with a local reporter. While on the lake, Ito spots a massive creature the monster Jirass, emerging from the water as the mad scientist feeds it. Ito follows the scientist back to his hidden lair but is captured along with the reporter.
When the Science Patrol loses contact with Ito, they return to the lake to investigate. Meanwhile, two fishermen dump poison into the water to increase their catch, unknowingly enraging Jirass. The monster rises from the lake in fury, just as the team locates the lair and rescues Ito and the reporter. With Jirass on a rampage, Hyata transforms into Ultraman to confront the creature.
The battle begins with Ultraman taunting Jirass, showing off his strength and agility. Ultraman grabs Jirass’s frill and tears it off, mocking the beast by waving it around like a matador’s cape. After a few more dodges and taunts, Ultraman ends the fight with a single devastating strike, killing Jirass.
This episode was a real treat for fans essentially Ultraman vs. Godzilla in disguise. Jirass was created using the Godzilla suit with a frill added around its neck, making this crossover moment feel legendary. While Ultraman’s constant taunting made the fight more playful than intense, it’s still one of the most iconic moments in the series. Personally, I still rank Episode 8, “Monster Lawless Zone,” slightly higher, but this is definitely one of my favorite episodes so far especially for Godzilla fans who love seeing familiar kaiju faces in new settings.
