Monster Appearances: Giant Crab, Prickleback, Red Bluster, Sea Serpents

We reviewed The Sea Beast, way back in episode 8 of the show, making the 2022 Netflix original animated film one of our earliest movie reviews. So, let’s dive back into this high-seas monster hunting adventure.

Prickleback
Prickleback Trailing the Inevitable

From massive sea creatures to legendary hunters, The Sea Beast delivers a story that feels like a modern-day kaiju tale wrapped in a pirate fantasy. The film follows Jacob Holland's crew of monster hunters whose world is turned upside down when a young girl Maisie Brumble challenges everything they believe about the creatures they have hunted for years.

In this review, we break down what makes The Sea Beast stand out from its animation and creature design to its deeper themes about perception, fear, and rewriting history.

Red Bluster

The creature designs feel right at home for kaiju fans, while the action sequences deliver scale and intensity that keep things exciting throughout, while even delivering some shots and scenes that mirror movies such as Godzilla.

But what really surprised us is the heart of the story. Beneath the monster battles is a message about understanding rather than fear.

If you're into monster movies, kaiju, or just a solid animated adventure, The Sea Beast is definitely worth checking out. Before K-Pop Demon Hunters stormed the scene, it stood as one of Netflix's biggest animated releases. A sequel has been greenlit, though there haven’t been any recent updates on its production.
