Note: This article was migrated over from godzillaisland.com and dates back to 2013. This may be a "feature" or type of review we try out here on the site or channel but for now we will just be transferring the few that Frank (Godzilla Island) has done over the years on his old site.
Welcome to a new feature where I’ll be diving into the Kaiju War Chronicles from TohoKingdom.com.Toho Kingdom has always been one of my favorite websites for kaiju information, and the Kaiju War Chronicles section features epic fan-fiction battles between some of the most legendary monsters in cinema history.
Today’s review covers “King Kong vs. SpaceGodzilla,” a story by Christian Salabert that you can read here (if you haven’t already).
This match is a wild one! SpaceGodzilla arrives on Faro Island with one mission — to steal the island’s sacred berry juice from the native village. But before he can complete his theft, King Kong steps in to stop him.
Unfortunately for Kong… things don’t go well. SpaceGodzilla absolutely dominates this fight blasting Kong with his Corona Beam, pelting him with crystals, and showing no mercy. It’s a total beatdown.
Let’s be real it reminded me of King Kong vs. Godzilla all over again. (Yeah, I said it. Godzilla kicked Kong’s ass in that movie too! I don’t care what they say Godzilla clearly had the upper hand that entire movie.)
By the end, Kong is humiliated on his own turf battered, buried under a mountain, and left in ruins while the natives watch their so-called god get obliterated.
When the dust settles, the explorers on Faro Island decide to leave with whatever’s left of Kong. That ending leaves you wondering will they try to save him? Or maybe rebuild him as a cyborg Kong?
It also made me think what if Oodako, the giant octopus, had joined in for the berry juice battle? Maybe he learned his lesson after losing to Kong the first time and decided to sit this one out once SpaceGodzilla showed up.
Despite how one-sided the fight was, I really enjoyed this story. Christian Salabert’s writing makes it cinematic and vivid you can picture every blast and roar. If you haven’t explored the Kaiju War Chronicles, you’re missing out! There are tons of matchups that sound incredible, and I’m just starting to dive into them myself.
