Dan breaks down the Blu-ray features for Howl From Beyond the Fog, released by SRS Cinema, a company that has done an incredible job bringing Kaiju and Tokusatsu films to U.S. audiences that would otherwise be nearly impossible to obtain or might never receive an official English-subtitled release at all. SRS Cinema’s Blu-ray distribution has played a major role in helping the kaiju fandom grow over the past several years.
Released in 2019, Howl From Beyond the Fog is a kaiju short film directed by Daisuke Sato that stands out by using puppetry and miniatures instead of a traditional suitmation approach or CGI. The result is a unique, handcrafted monster film that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly original.
The Blu-ray release includes the 35-minute short film along with an equally impressive 35-minute making-of documentary, offering an in-depth look at how the film was brought to life. We absolutely love this movie, and it’s a kaiju experience that should not be missed. Howl From Beyond the Fog also holds a special place for us, as it was the very first film we reviewed on our podcast back in 2022.
