Godzilla vs Megaguirus Art by Bob Eggleton

Note: This article was originally published in 2014 on Godzilla Island views and opinions may have since changed.

The Godzilla: Cataclysm series has been a pretty interesting one so far. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where kaiju have brought about the end of civilization. The monsters haven’t been seen for so many years that many survivors now think of them as legends or even gods. The few remaining humans live scattered in small camps, performing rituals and sacrifices to appease the kaiju they believe once destroyed them.

In this issue, after the return of Godzilla, Biollante, and Mothra, a swarm of Megaguirus attacks the camp in search of the Biollante flower that Arata brought back. The flower quickly begins to grow into another Biollante, and chaos erupts as Godzilla and Mothra arrive. Since the Biollante seed may be humanity’s last hope to restore life to the planet, Arata must flee to keep it safe from the kaiju determined to destroy it.

I’ve been collecting the alternate subscription covers for this series, and the artwork has been awesome. The story idea behind Godzilla: Cataclysm is really cool honestly, it could make a great movie, maybe not within the existing Godzilla universe but as a new post-apocalyptic kaiju concept inspired by it. This mini-series has been a solid read so far, and I definitely recommend picking it up or grabbing the collected edition when it releases.
