Ultraman Episode 6 " The Coast Guard Command" Review | Godzilla Island Archive

The episode starts off with reports of a creature being sighted around Tokyo Bay. Hoshino is down by the bay with his friends watching a cocoa bean shipment come in when one of them spots something strange in the water. Hoshino, however, is distracted by a suspicious-looking man he recognizes from somewhere. His friend insists on calling the Science Patrol to report the monster, but they hang up thinking it’s a prank.

Meanwhile, Hoshino discovers a wanted poster for a smuggler named Diamond Kick the same man he just saw! Soon after, the monster Gesura rises from Tokyo Bay, confirming Hoshino’s story. The Science Patrol rushes into action as Hoshino gets kidnapped by Diamond Kick. During the chaos, Hyata is trapped under debris and transforms into Ultraman to face Gesura.

The fight between Ultraman and Gesura is brutal Gesura’s sharp dorsal spike even injures Ultraman during close combat. The two end up wrestling underwater, and just when it looks like Ultraman might lose, he rips Gesura’s fin clean off, defeating the creature without using his power beam. Hyata later emerges with Diamond Kick in custody, and Tokyo Bay is safe once again.

This episode was a big improvement over Episode 5. Gesura has a weird but awesome kaiju design, and it was refreshing to see Ultraman win without relying on his beam attack. A solid episode definitely worth checking out.
