The episode starts off with a spaceship launching from Earth to aid in the development of Jupiter. Shortly after takeoff, the ship explodes, and the Science Patrol discovers it was carrying six nuclear bombs. One of the bombs detonated in the ocean, four were recovered, but the sixth remains missing.
Soon after, a cargo ship is attacked by Ragon a giant humanoid sea creature mutated by the nuclear blast. Ragon makes landfall and attacks a seaside hotel where Fuji and Hoshino happen to be vacationing. Fuji contacts the Science Patrol, and Hyata rushes to the scene.
When Hyata arrives, he spots the missing nuclear bomb resting on Ragon’s shoulder. After Ragon shoots down the Science Patrol’s ship, Hyata transforms into Ultraman. During the battle, Ultraman manages to grab the bomb just as it’s about to fall, but now he’s at a disadvantage — he can only fight with one hand.
Ragon repeatedly lands blows and even blasts Ultraman with radioactive breath. The creature grabs Ultraman’s arm, knocking the bomb loose. It hits the ground and arms itself ready to explode. With only seconds to act, Ultraman fires his power beam at Ragon, knocking the kaiju into the ocean. He then grabs the bomb and flies it into space just before it detonates.
Ragon was a really cool monster kind of like if the Gargantuas had a baby with the Creature from the Black Lagoon. I honestly think Ragon could take on the Gargantuas or even Frankenstein because of his radioactive breath advantage. Ragon gave Ultraman a real challenge, and the bomb’s countdown added great tension to the fight. Since Ragon wasn’t completely destroyed, maybe he’s still out there in the ocean waiting to return someday.
