This episode kicks off with a trip to Antarctica, where an exploration crew has been researching the region for several years. Early on we learn that a man from the original crew went missing, and nobody ever figured out what happened to him. As soon as the new team arrives, the temperature suddenly begins to plummet at a terrifying rate. Things escalate quickly when one of the giant exploration snow trucks is lifted into the air and tossed aside like it weighed nothing.

One night, the crew’s nurse steals one of the snow vehicles and heads out into the frozen wasteland on her own. It turns out she was engaged to the missing man and has never given up hope. She actually discovers his dog still guarding his frozen body. Somehow, the dog survived all these years by eating a rare moss that only grows in the area.

While the crew is trying to recover the man’s body, Peguila appears. We soon learn that Peguila is the source of the dangerous temperature drops and the mysterious truck incident. During the attack, the team notices Peguila recoiling from the dog realizing the moss covering it might be something the monster is weak to. They return to base and create a chemical missile using moss extract in case Peguila decides to strike again. Sure enough, Peguila attacks the base, and when the missile hits, the creature flees Antarctica.

This was a great episode overall. Peguila’s design is awesome, and it definitely looks like it might be related to Chandora from Ultraman, though I’m not sure if that’s official. If those two ever fought, I’d give the edge to Peguila since Chandora didn’t really show any special abilities when I last saw it in Ultraman Episode 8.

I also love that they left Peguila’s fate open-ended. In the previous Ultra Q episodes, the monsters either died or it was heavily implied they weren’t making it out alive. Here, Peguila survives and escapes, which makes me hope we’ll see where it went in a later episode.

This is easily one of my favorite Ultra Q episodes so far. If the rest of the series keeps this pace, we’re in for some great stuff. I’m really enjoying this show and highly recommend checking it out!
