Monster Name: Takkong
Monster Appearances: Return of Ultraman, Ultraman Orb Chronicle, Ultraman Taiga
Takkong is a giant, bulbous-shaped kaiju that walks on two legs and features a long tail with two small but powerful arms. Its body is covered in octopus-like suckers, which it can use to blast pressurized water at its enemies. Thanks to its massive size and weight, Takkong is an incredibly strong opponent, especially in aquatic environments.
A skilled swimmer, Takkong can fire water and oil from its mouth assuming it has consumed oil beforehand. In more modern appearances, Takkong has also demonstrated the ability to breathe fire and camouflage itself, making this bizarre-looking monster far more dangerous than it initially appears.
Takkong first surfaced in Tokyo Bay, where it battled the seaweed monster Zazahn. While Zazahn managed to land a few solid hits early in the fight, Takkong ultimately defeated the monster by pushing it into a factory filled with explosive materials. Afterward, Takkong began attacking the city but retreated when the spirit of Ultraman Jack intervened.
Later, Takkong reappeared and attacked an oil refinery. When MAT arrived and opened fire, the monster once again retreated. MAT then deployed a submarine unit to track Takkong, but their rushed assault only sent the monster into a violent rampage. Feeding on nearby oil tanks, Takkong caused massive fires throughout the refinery district.
Ultraman Jack soon appeared in physical form and engaged Takkong directly. The monster proved to be a serious challenge, pushing Jack to his limits. In the end, Ultraman Jack tore off one of Takkong’s arms and finished the oil-soaked kaiju with his Specium Ray, causing Takkong to explode.
Other Takkong have appeared several times since the original attack, and each incarnation has proven this monster to be a serious threat. While I initially thought Takkong’s design looked a bit ridiculous, seeing it in action completely changed my mind. Takkong is definitely no pushover, this thing is an absolute power beast.
