Mognezun is a prehistoric kaiju covered in sharp spikes. Its modern-day awakening gave it a deadly new ability: expelling poisonous gas. This development was caused by leftover chemical weapons from World War II Japan had dumped yellow toxic gas in the area where Mognezun had been hibernating. Feeding on the gas triggered this lethal adaptation. Besides its poisonous breath, Mognezun is an expert digger, capable of burrowing underground with speed and precision.

The first modern-day Mognezun appeared in a Japanese forest, where it unleashed its poisonous gas and killed an entire film crew working on a samurai movie. When MAT responded, they attempted to muzzle Mognezun, but the monster easily broke free. Ultraman Jack then intervened. With the help of MAT using a chemical to neutralize the monster’s poisonous gas, Ultraman Jack gained the upper hand and ultimately killed Mognezun with a concussive kick to the head.

Mognezun’s design is striking, somewhat reminiscent of Bemular but with a more menacing presence due to its deadly gas ability. While Mognezun only appeared once, its story is notable for reflecting the real-world dangers of chemical warfare and the mass casualties it caused, a darker moment for the Ultra series.
