Monster Profile: Mechani-Kong
Movie Appearances: King Kong Escapes
Mechani-Kong is exactly what it sounds like a mechanical version of King Kong. Mechani-Kong is basically a giant silver robot gorilla. Its most notable features are its glowing eyes that light up with intense brightness, a bomb belt around its waist, and a mounted hypnosis light on its head. Being a massive robot, Mechani-Kong also packs some serious strength.
Mechani-Kong’s only movie appearance was in the 1967 film King Kong Escapes. It was created by the evil Dr. Who for the purpose of mining the radioactive Element X. However, when Mechani-Kong’s circuits were destroyed by the powerful magnetic field surrounding Element X, Dr. Who had to have the circuits rebuilt and shielded.
While the circuits were being repaired, Dr. Who captured the real King Kong to finish mining Element X but that plan quickly backfired when Kong broke free of the hypnosis he was under. To counter this, Dr. Who upgraded Mechani-Kong by adding the hypnosis light to its head, giving it the power to daze or control King Kong.
The two Kongs faced off in Tokyo, with their final showdown taking place atop Tokyo Tower. When the control center guiding Mechani-Kong was destroyed, the robot fell from the tower and broke into pieces. After Dr. Who was killed by King Kong, Mechani-Kong was never rebuilt or seen again.
