Kamacuras are giant mantises that often travel in groups. These insect kaiju have large wings that allow them to fly at high speeds and sharp claws they use to slice and strike their enemies. Kamacuras also possess camouflage abilities, first revealed in Godzilla: Final Wars.

The Kamacuras made their debut in Son of Godzilla, where they were created after a weather-control experiment triggered a radioactive storm on Sollgel Island, mutating the island’s native mantises into massive monsters. In the English-dubbed version of Son of Godzilla, they are referred to as “Gimantis.”

In Son of Godzilla, three Kamacuras attack Godzilla, but two are quickly defeated and the third is later killed by the giant spider Kumonga. Kamacuras reappears briefly in Godzilla’s Revenge and Godzilla vs Gigan, making cameo appearances on Monster Island. In Godzilla: Final Wars, Kamacuras showcases its camouflage powers but is swiftly defeated by Godzilla once again.

While Kamacuras has never proven to be a strong or durable kaiju, it remains a recognizable member of Godzilla’s rogues’ gallery. Its insectoid design and group attacks make it a fun and distinctive part of the Monster Island lineup.
