Jirass looks almost identical to Godzilla, except for the large frill around its neck—similar to that of a frilled lizard. Its body features hints of neon green across the scales, but overall, Jirass appears like Godzilla’s strange twin.
Jirass was created by a mad scientist obsessed with monsters and kept hidden in a lake near a small fishing village. The creature can fire electric blasts from its mouth and remain underwater for long periods of time.
When Ultraman finally confronted Jirass, the fight was surprisingly one-sided. Ultraman spent most of the battle taunting the creature, eventually tearing off its frill and waving it around like a matador teasing a bull. After dodging Jirass’s wild charges several times, Ultraman ended the fight with a single devastating blow to the gut.
While Jirass couldn’t last long in battle, this Godzilla doppelganger remains one of the most memorable kaiju in the Ultraman series for fans who love seeing familiar monsters reimagined in new forms.
