Name: Gorosaurus

Movie Appearances: King Kong Escapes, Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla’s Revenge (All Monsters Attack), Godzilla vs Gigan

Gorosaurus is a Tyrannosaurus-like kaiju with small bumps running down his back. He has a large mouth that he uses to bite his enemies and is known for his ability to jump high and deliver a powerful kangaroo-style kick. Gorosaurus also has burrowing abilities, which we see in Destroy All Monsters when he rises from beneath the streets of France and destroys the Arc de Triomphe.

Gorosaurus first appeared in King Kong Escapes, where he battled King Kong. He was defeated after Kong broke his jaw open. Later on, in Destroy All Monsters, Gorosaurus returned to help the other kaiju from Monster Island in their final battle against King Ghidorah.

Gorosaurus is a pretty cool kaiju. I always thought it was an odd choice to have him rise from underground in Destroy All Monsters, because like a T. rex, he has very short arms not exactly ideal for digging. The real reason for that scene is that it was originally meant to feature Baragon, but the Baragon suit wasn’t available at the time of filming. Even knowing that, it’s still a funny creative choice. Gorosaurus also appears briefly in All Monsters Attack and Godzilla vs Gigan through reused footage. He’s considered a Monster Island native and a friend of Godzilla’s.
