Monster Profile: Gomess

Appearances: Ultra Q, Ultraman Z, Ultraman Decker, Ultraman Arc, Shin Ultraman

Gomess are giant dinosaur-like monsters with plate armor covering their bodies. They have a horn on the top of their skulls and two long tusks protruding from their mouths.

Gomess do not have any special abilities beyond their immense strength, armor-like skin, and the ability to dig underground. The first Gomess appeared when it was awakened by a crew digging a tunnel for a highway. When Gomess began attacking the crew, a Litra happened to have recently hatched nearby, and the two monsters fought.

The battle was fierce Litra managed to kill Gomess but suffered fatal wounds in the process, dying shortly after.

A later version known as Shin Gomess appeared years later, becoming the very first monster to emerge during a mass kaiju appearance. Shin Gomess broke out from a mine and went on a rampage through the nearby mountains, eventually coming into conflict with the JSDF. Despite its strength and armored hide, Shin Gomess was ultimately killed when a detachment of tanks opened fire and brought it down.

Other versions of Gomess have appeared in later Ultra series, but I have not seen those appearances yet. I’ll update this entry once I’ve watched them.
