Monster Appearances: Godzilla
Back in 2023, we recorded this spoiler-free review of Godzilla Minus One, one of the most powerful and emotionally resonant entries in the Godzilla franchise to date.

Godzilla Minus One delivers a perfect balance of human drama, tension, and classic Godzilla spectacle, making it a must-watch for longtime fans while remaining completely accessible to newcomers. It’s the kind of movie that stays with you long after the credits roll—and one that will have you coming back for repeat viewings.
In all our years of watching Godzilla films, no other entry has featured human characters we connected with on such a deep emotional level. By the back half of the movie, we were feeling the same emotional pain as the characters on screen, and the closing moments made it hard to hold back the tears. You laugh, cry, and feel everything these people are experiencing during this difficult post–World War II period in Japan.

Seeing Godzilla return to the big screen as a truly vicious villain was incredible. No other version of Godzilla has felt this devastating and relentless. Every time Godzilla appeared, his presence was massive from the physical destruction to the emotional toll inflicted on the characters. This is a Godzilla that will be remembered.

The film went on to win an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, though we believe it could have easily taken home more awards had it been submitted in additional categories. To this day, Godzilla Minus One stands as one of the best Godzilla films ever made and will be incredibly difficult to top. We have high hopes for Minus Zero and eagerly await what comes next.
For now, check out our full video review below for our thoughts on why Godzilla Minus One stands out as a modern masterpiece and don’t be surprised if we revisit it soon with a full spoiler review.
