Monster Name: Gesura
Movie Appearances: Ultraman Episode 6 — “Coast Guard Orders”
Gesura is a lizard-like kaiju with a fish-shaped head and face. Its body is covered in spikes, including a large dorsal fin running down its back. Gesura also has a pale white tail with bulbous sacs that stretch along the back of its hind legs, giving it a strange and unique look.
Gesura usually walks on all fours but can also stand upright when needed. It can survive underwater for long periods and seems strangely attracted to cocoa beans — before becoming a monster, Gesura was an ordinary lizard that fed on them. After falling into polluted Tokyo Bay from a cocoa bean ship, the creature mutated into the massive kaiju seen in the episode.
The spikes along Gesura’s back are poisonous, making physical attacks extremely dangerous. It can also spit a foam-like spray from its mouth to attack enemies. Gesura was finally defeated when Ultraman tore off its dorsal fin during their battle.
Gesura is a pretty cool but odd-looking kaiju — the mix of lizard and fish features makes it one of the stranger designs from Ultraman. The bulbous tail sacs add to its weird appearance, but that’s part of what makes it memorable. Like Ragon, Gesura’s body sank into the sea after the fight, leaving fans wondering if it might still be alive somewhere in Tokyo Bay.
