Eleking is one of the most iconic monsters in the entire Ultraman franchise. Eleking are amphibious kaiju that stand on two legs and possess long, powerful tails used to constrict and electrically shock their enemies. While Eleking are naturally white with black stripes, most appear yellowish due to their skin being easily stained by the muddy waters they typically inhabit.
Eleking generate electric energy throughout their entire bodies, allowing them to shock enemies through physical contact or unleash electric beams from their mouths and antennae. The antennae often mistaken for horns function as Eleking’s eyes, ears, and radar system, allowing them to detect movement and navigate their environment. These antennae also receive command signals from Alien Pitt controllers, making Eleking heavily associated with Pitt invasions.
The antennae are Eleking’s one major weakness. If damaged or destroyed, Eleking loses its vision and spatial awareness, often sending it into a panic. As fully amphibious creatures, Eleking thrive both on land and underwater and are excellent swimmers. Eleking begin life as alien tadpoles, growing rapidly into the massive monsters seen on screen.
The first Eleking appeared in Lake Azuma, Japan, unleashed by the Alien Pitt during their attempted invasion of Earth. At first, Eleking existed only as a tadpole before quickly growing into a full-sized kaiju. Ultraseven initially deployed his capsule monster Miclas to stop it. Miclas fought bravely but was ultimately overwhelmed by Eleking’s electrical power and forced to retreat.
Ultraseven then entered the battle himself. Using his Emerium Ray, Ultraseven blasted off Eleking’s antennae, blinding the monster and sending it into a frenzy of pain and confusion. Ultraseven ended the fight decisively by slicing Eleking in half with his Eye Slugger, delivering a fatal blow.
Eleking is a brilliantly designed monster and fully deserves its many appearances throughout the Ultraman franchise. Alongside Red King and Kingsaurus III, Eleking is considered one of the franchise’s three notable “king” monsters. Its popularity and frequent returns prove just how memorable and effective the concept truly is.
This entry will be updated with additional Eleking appearances as they are reviewed.
