Ebirah is a giant, lobster-like kaiju. It has no special abilities beyond its capacity to breathe underwater and its devastating claws. Its left claw is noticeably thinner and longer than the right, almost needle-like, which it uses to crush or slice anything in its path—boats, submarines, and enemies alike.

Ebirah made its first appearance in Ebirah, Horror of the Deep, patrolling the waters of an island to ensure no one escaped. The island had been taken over by a terrorist organization known as the Red Bamboo, who enslaved the local population to produce a yellow juice that acted as a repellent against Ebirah. In this film, Ebirah battles Godzilla but is ultimately defeated. Footage from this battle was later reused in Godzilla's Revenge.

Although Ebirah did not appear in the Heisei series, it returned for the Millennium series in Godzilla: Final Wars, commemorating Godzilla’s 50th anniversary. In this film, Ebirah fights mutant soldiers and is nearly defeated before the Xilien teleport it out of danger. Later, Ebirah teams up with Hedorah to battle Godzilla, though both are quickly subdued by Godzilla’s Atomic Breath.

While Ebirah is a relatively straightforward kaiju, it is a personal favorite over the Giant Octopus, Oodako. Its portrayal in Ebirah, Horror of the Deep is genuinely terrifying, which puts it far ahead of Oodako in my book. Though not originally from Monster Island, Ebirah eventually made its way there in Godzilla's Revenge, and as a fan of the Monsters of Monster Island, I can confidently say: Ebirah, you’re cool in my book.
