Monster Name: Dangar

Monster Appearances: Return of Ultraman, Redman

Dangar is an odd-looking kaiju with long, fleshy appendages that hang around its head like a lion’s mane. It also sports a single tusk-like fang protruding from the front of its mouth. Its hands end in hook-shaped claws, which Dangar uses to slash at enemies. While it lacks flashy special abilities, Dangar can burrow underground and relies on its raw physical strength and thick hide to fight.

The first Dangar was discovered on a remote Pacific island. It had been hibernating deep underground, and MAT attempted to seal it away by detonating dynamite inside its cave. Instead of trapping the creature, the blast woke Dangar, who burst out of the rubble and started attacking. Ultraman Jack arrived soon after and battled the monster. During the fight, Jack tore off Dangar’s mane, disorienting it and leaving it vulnerable. Jack then slammed the monster to the ground and finished it with his Specium Ray.

Dangar is a uniquely designed kaiju, but this was its only appearance in Return of Ultraman. The monster later returned in multiple episodes of Redman, which I’ll cover as I revisit those stories.
